Our Explorers rock at reading! Today, we were named this month's i-Ready Super School because our students showed the most improvement in their i-Ready reading scores over the course of the year. Principal Hoots will protect the banner this summer and hopefully we'll keep it here this fall.
As a way of continuing to promote child nutrition and adding to the many celebrations capping the end of the school year, Berkeley County School District’s Office of Child Nutrition Services will launch a special giveaway next week (May 20–24) that will offer some big prizes.
Elementary, middle and high school students eating lunch and/or breakfast next week will be entered into a drawing for prizes that include, but are not limited to:
*iPads
*Wireless earbuds/headphones
*Underwater cameras
*Projectors
*Action cameras
*Bluetooth speakers
Students will receive one entry into the drawing for each meal they eat. Winners will be drawn at random, and those who eat multiple meals will obviously have an increased chance of winning.

Nexton's Cafeteria will have openings next year. The hours are from 6:30am-1:30pm. The pay will be around $15 an hour.

Head Basketball Coach Shawn McKeen and Cane Bay High School will host a two-day basketball camp. Past-NBA player Jumaine Jones will be in attendance to help coach.
This is open to any male and female student. The ages are 7-13 years old. The camp will be Monday, June 3rd and Tuesday, June 4th from 1:00pm-4:00pm in the Cane Bay High School Gymnasium. The cost is $150.

Your child had the chance to self-select three books to add to their home library, absolutely free of charge. These books are carefully organized by independent reading level to ensure they're both enjoyable and beneficial for your child's development.
The selected books will be delivered to NES for your child to enjoy during the summer months. However, please note that only students who return the attached form will be able to receive their chosen books. Simply select "I approve for my student to participate in this program and self-select 3 books," and fill out the required information.
If, upon delivery, you decide you do not wish for your child to receive a selected book, you may return it to the school.

Spring has sprung! BCSD Spring Break runs April 1-5. All students return to school on April 8.
Students received their Spring Break Challenge in their Wednesday folders this week. We decided to send home 4 challenges throughout this year over long breaks to help support our students' learning while they are out of school. This will be our last challenge for this school year. We will be sending home a summer challenge to help them stay sharp with their skills. If your students completes the challenge and returns it on Monday after spring break, they will receive a prize.

Nexton Elementary will be hosting a Social Media Awareness Night for Parents, Guardians, and Adults over 18 years old, even if they are out of our attendance zone.
The event will be Thursday, March 28 at 6:30pm in the Multi-Purpose Room at Nexton Elementary.
