Position: Assistant Head Coach/Defensive Coordinator/Special Teams Coordinator

Alex Renner is entering his 2nd year as Defensive Coordinator for the Iron Horses and 1st as Assistant Head Coach and Special Teams Coordinator.  Coach Renner is entering his 6th season of coaching football in the Lowcountry in 2020.

 Alex Renner graduated from Sylvania Southview High School in 2008 and was a member of teams that won 2 conference championships and advanced to the postseason three times. Coach Renner then went on to attend Ashland University (Ohio) and received a B.S. in AYA Integrated Social Studies Education (Grades 7-12).  Alex was a starting fullback and tight end for 4 seasons, was named All-GLIAC Academic Team 6 times, and was a member of the 2012 GLIAC conference championship team at Ashland and a contributor on three NCAA Division 2 playoff appearances.

 Alex Renner began his coaching career at Garrett Academy of Technology in North Charleston, SC, and spent 3 seasons as Offensive Coordinator and 1 season as Defensive Coordinator. Garrett Academy earned playoff berths in 3 out of 4 of the seasons that Coach Renner was with the program.  Coach Renner joined the Iron Horses as Defensive Coordinator for their second place region finish and a 4-6 record in 2019. The team also hosted the first ever playoff game in school history.
